In 2009, the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation secured $50,000 in local and state grant funds to partner with Digitell, Inc., a downtown business, to build a virtual downtown Jamestown.
The project, which was engineered to help market downtown Jamestown to tourists, young professionals, developers and a host of others, launched in 2010. Options for further developmentand usage are currently being explored.
Downtown WiFi
The JRC entered into a public-private partnership to launch a Downtown WiFi Hotspot Project in 2009. In collaboration with the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation, the JRC partnered with Eagle Zip, Inc. and Blue Screen Radio to launch a free WiFi hotspot throughout the entire downtown.
"My Jamestown WiFi Hotspot" encompasses the West End and Downtown Core areas from the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena to City Hall and Sixth Street to First Street. Anyone located in the area can access free connectivity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
