Upper Floor Redevelopment

Living Downtown

The Urban Design Plan notes successful implementation must include methods for making downtown living work. It suggests attracting new residential development to all areas of downtown. Construction of such housing has the potential to create new vitality and provide an enhanced market for downtown business.

The Jamestown Renaissance Corporation recognized a growing demand for downtown residential units in 2011. It partnered with the City of Jamestown and a downtown property owner to revitalize the second floor of a North Main Street building, which also recently underwent a facade restoration. The nearly 1,700 square foot renovation was completed by Homescapes B.C. in the summer, and was immediately occupied. It features one bedroom, two bathrooms, a loft-style living room and kitchen, a den, and a laundry room.

A second project was just completed a little farther north on North Main. The JRC again partnered with the City of Jamestown and a downtown property owner to renovate a second floor. The 1,400 square foot apartment was completed by Creative Custom Design this spring. The unit features two bedrooms, one bathroom, an open living room, a kitchen, and a laundry room.

Additional projects are being considered for 2012.
